Let’s talk wide leg pants! How to dress them up and down
It’s no news that I am obsessed with wide leg pants.
Morris and my mum are so over my ‘big trousers’, In fact we had an argument this morning and he went as far as checking some Instagram influencers on IG to see if they’re also in love with this trend. 😂🤣😂
I don’t know about you but I am so over super skinny trousers. I feel weird wearing them, I can’t even remember the last time I wore one; they’re all tuck far away in my wardrobe.
There is perhaps no singular clothing item more slimming than a well-fitting pair of wide leg pants that hit right at your waist, or higher. The width of the pants’ hemlines only serves to make your waist look that much narrower. Which I absolutely love!
It’s great for short legged women like me, as wide leg pants are very leg lengthening when they fit well at the top. Also, buy them long. I don’t like the look of wide leg pants that are too short. It’s nicer and looks classier when your pants hide your high heels. I opted for a 3-4 inches heel just so it covers my feet.
You can dress them up with a fancy blouse, shirt and shoes, or sandals like I did, you can dress them down with a T-shirt, flats, body suit or tank top for a modern look. I knotted my shirt for a more chic and casual look; don’t leave your top loose when opting for a high-waisted style. Show off your waistline and minimize excess bulk with this elegant silhouette.
You’re probably thinking wide leg pants with flats is a no no. Most of us have been conditioned to believe that it’s basically impossible to pull off a wide or billowing palazzo-style pant without a towering heel to go with it. Not so! You can rock a flat on your wide leg pants and still look incredibly elegant. Just ensure your pants are tailored well.
The key to nailing the wide-leg pants trend?
1. Balancing proportions. Tuck a fitted lightweight blouse tailored with a wide-leg pant for the perfect contrast. Or for a more dramatic look, break the fashion rules and wear a long length shirt over your wide leg pants. Very similar to my look. And in case you’re wondering, Yes! I’m wearing the wrong side of my shirt. Fashion is fun when you don’t limit yourself.
2. Keep the rest of the look neutral with pieces in subtle or complementary colors.
3. Tank tops/bodysuits and wide-leg jeans are a match made in sartorial heaven. The fitted style adds definition, so your voluminous pants don’t feel overwhelming.
4. You can always throw on a Jacket or Kimono for a classic and more corporate look.
So, what do you think about the wide leg pant trend? Yay or Nah!!
In unrelated news;
They say pictures tell a thousand words, but that can’t be said for this pictures because bruh!!!!! If you look very closely, you can tell I was almost dying of heat and dehydration. 😂😂😂😂
Below is my Instagram caption (on the day of the shoot)
“Today was one of those days when I said to myself like every other blogger would say – ‘anything for the blog’ A decision I later regretted. Clearly I forgot the city I live in! 😫😫😫😫. I was going to take some pictures for the blog but the sun wouldn’t let me be great. I was sweating profusely, my makeup was all over the place; it was so bad I angrily got out my wipes and took and off the entire makeup.
I was dehydrated but fear of paying AED2k if caught drinking the water was wisdom. You dare not chew gum in public during the Ramadan, or even hold a bottle of water in your hands. AED2k fine (200knaira fa!). I need not tell you that wisdom is profitable to direct.
Morale of the story: Not every time ‘anything for the blog’. (Don’t goan kee yasef in the name of blogging)
And brethren, if you live in the UAE or you’re visiting, Do not wear makeup not unless you have a ride. Makeup is too expensive to be wasting under Dubai sun. 😳😳😌😌😌
No more blog pictures till winter 🤔🤔🤔🤔”
The struggle is real!!!! 😩😩😩😩
