How to wear a bodycon dress to work, a date & casually

Been a minute since my last style post. I’m super excited to share my first 2017 style post.
More to come!

So, bodycon dresses – if you thought they are just a one hit wonder, you thought wrong.  I don’t think it’s a big secret that I love body con dresses, as a matter of fact like the Kardashians, my style centers around outfits that accentuates my curves. Apart from the fact that they’re figure hugging, shape snatching and conversation starters, their versatility makes me love them so much.

To be honest, my big belle wouldn’t let me be great I’m extremely conscious of my bulging tummy, which has never really been flat throughout my entire existence but soon to be (can I get an amen 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽). I blame my fatty genes. And food. Oh, and my sweet tooth too.  Yet, I still feel a level of confidence and channel my inner diva; you know that feeling of ‘all eyes on me’ and of course for a good reason when I’m on a bodycon dress.

If you don’t feel good in it, don’t wear it. Because it’ll never look good – L’wren Scott

Unfortunately, not every woman can pull this off, the bodycon dress shouldn’t leave you feeling self-conscious about your body and the last thing you want to do is to accentuate those areas you feel less confidence about. But not to worry, shapeware’s, waist clinchers and spanx are available to give you an amazing silhouette by defining your waist and banishing those love handles. In my case, I use a waist clincher – my saving grace till this waist gets snatched.

So, if you’re self-conscious about your midsection; wear a shape wear, wear a vest or a blazer over it. If you’re self-conscious about your booty, tie a button down shirt or jean jacket around your waist. Not totally in love with your arms? Wear a blazer or a bomber jacket to cover up. What ever rocks your boat sweetie! You should also keep in mind the following when you choose to wear a bodycon dress;

  • Don’t bare it all: it’s all about striking a balance between showing your hot bod and keeping it classy – create an illusion.
  • The bodycon dress already is a show stopper piece so you should keep accessories at the minimum.
  • Wear the right underwear: visible panty lines are disastrous, I get embarrassed when I see ladies with pant lining walking about confidently.  Remember the goal is to look classy not tacky – be extra conscious.
  • Wear heels and layer up if you’re feeling a little less confident.
  • Wear dark colors to shave off a few inches.
  • Comfort is key no matter what. If you feel good in what you’re wearing you’ll look good; confidence is everything.

Although bodycon dresses are originally seen as evening wear, they can be skillfully accessorized for casual daywear and office wear.  The versatility of the dress gives a great field for the imagination. Depending on the event, you can add different elements to experiment with clothes and shoes.

For an elegant dinner outfit, pair the bodycon dress with a stiletto and accessories if necessary. A tight-fitting bodycon dress will give your date the impression that you’re comfortable in your own skin. Always remember that comfort should be your first priority! The last thing you want to do is to be fidgeting with your outfit – if you don’t feel confident in a bodycon dress wear something else.  The ultimate goal is to achieve the effortless “I just threw this on” vibe. For my outfit, I kept my accessories at the minimum because the prints on my dress which I absolutely love is already a bold statement. Also, wear very minimal makeup, you don’t want turn your date off with a cakey face. Keep it simple and sultry. One can never go wrong with a touch of red lipstick.

Put a blazer on it! – A bodycon dress might seem office inappropriate, but a blazer will fix that predicament easily. Blazers look very classy over bodycon dresses and adds more polish to the tight dress. You can always count on a blazer to transform your casual clothes into work clothes. This avoids you from having to buy work clothes regularly. You can also add a vest, shirt or even a skirt over your bodycon dress. Just put your creative self to work.
