2016 in retrospect: Reflection, appreciation & the best of everything – Happy New year
What a year 2016 was. As we welcome the New Year, it is important to take stock of 2016 and reflect on what we must do right in 2017. No doubts 2016 was a difficult year for some of us – nonetheless, I urge you not to dwell on the negatives and forget all the positive things that might have happened. For what it’s worth, you’re alive, hale and hearty to see 2017. Be grateful!
Because I am a perpetual optimist, I assumed everything will go along fine and said to myself not to set any goals for 2016 – Whatever happens happens. That was my first and biggest mistake of 2016. When you don’t set goals, you absolutely have no drive or zeal to achieve anything. You literally set yourself up for failure! I learnt the hard way. I felt unaccomplished, I had no achievements to be proud of and no satisfaction in my life. Goals gives you a sense of direction and you need that direction to get you to where you want to be. Don’t be like Tega of 2016, set some audacious goals for 2017 – focus and channel your potential and abilities into achieving them before the end of the year.
This 10 questions will help you reflect on different aspect of 2016 and get you prepared for 2017. Write your answers out and think them through; if possible discuss about them with a friend or partner.
- If you have to describe 2016 in 3 words, what will they be?
- What single achievement are you most proud of?
- What, or who, are you most thankful for?
- What was the most important lesson you learnt in 2016?
- What one thing would you do differently and why?
- What is your number one goal for 2017?
- What skills do you want to learn, improve or master?
- Which personal quality do you want to develop or strengthen?
- What do you want your everyday life to be like?
- Which habits do you want to change, cultivate or get rid of?
Enough of the advice, I believe we are all set and ready to take 2017 head on. It’s gonna be a great year. Trust me!
