So i was speaking to a friend earlier today about the essence of hard work and miracles. And am like of course miracles do happen but sometimes if not all times we have to go find and claim our miracle. To him, miracles would come and meet you of which i slightly agree but bruh! “Heaven helps those who helps themselves”. Him being a normal human, insisted on a biblical prove. However, there’s no verse in the bible that says “Heaven helps those who helps themselves” like literally but there are scriptures that totally relate to this. (p:s – There’s a scripture to backup almost anything in the bible).
My backup scripture was: James 2:14-26 “Faith without works is dead”
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?… 18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your[a] works, and I will show you my faith by my[b] works... 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”… 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. 25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? 26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
(Had to cut some part of the scriptures out make the post short)
You know with each point you bring comes more argument. So the next question was
Him: What did Abraham do? besides ‘works’ here doesn’t specify ‘hard work’.
Me: Being righteous alone is hard work, Abraham was righteous he served God. Abraham had flocks and what not he was rich of course he had to tend for his livestock. Bottom line is he had to work! He even had to put extra work at his old age to make a baby boy with his wife Sarah. (God forgive my canal thoughts [wp-svg-icons icon=”happy” wrap=”i”])
Additionally, you cant compare the work of those days to that of now. No one bothered about quality education, properties, living the jet life and what not. Humans have evolved and we still evolving so our wants and needs are gonna get even bigger and better, the work needed to be do to attain all of these are gonna get tougher as well. #harderwork.
Rest would come eventually, you would eat the fruit of your labor. But before rest comes hard work.
Even in requesting things from God we have to work hard because the bible says in Mark 9:29: 29 So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.” To me, Fasting is work! giving up your food is hard work and sacrifice.
Him: Nne you wan dey cast demons? lol [wp-svg-icons icon=”grin-2″ wrap=”i”]
show me another context when it wasn’t demons.
Me: You don’t only fast because you want to cast out demons. Though the bible says in Ephesians 6:8 “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly place“
Him: Fasting helps the spiritual life, not in receiving from God that’s the job of prayer and not fasting.
(Story for another day. We would deal with this later)
Me: (Back to hard work) James 5:15b “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” So you see, even prayer pass prayer! In prayer you have to work hard by praying harder and more intensely to get better and faster results.
Me: Hope i have been able to convince and not confuse you that heaven helps those who help themselves [wp-svg-icons icon=”happy” wrap=”i”]
Him: I let you work with what you believe but heaven helps us cos we are children of God, As a child do you work hard for your mother to feed you? When you break her plate she still feeds you let alone God that said he will never leave us nor forsake us.
Me: Am not disputing that fact. God would definitely intervene in our situation cos he loves us. Yes mum feeds you cos she loves you and its her responsibility but as a child i remember my mum slipping extra meat in my food cos i did a little hard work for her. God is a re- warder of those that diligently seeks him.
Blessing pass Blessing o!
As there’s the normal blessing bestowed upon us cos of God’s love for us and there’s the additional blessing he gives certain people as a reward of their hard work. In hard work, i mean different aspects. Even on the judgement day, God would reward those that work harder on earth (kingdom work) with extra stars on their crown. Can’t remember the exact scripture in revelation though.
Me: So you see, God requires we work hard in every aspect of our life. If you tell yourself you OK with where you are, you would remain there. But if you choose to work harder to attain more you would get it. Because hard work pays in the long run.
Him: OK Ma’am
All am trying to say is “no food for lazy man” “faith without works is dead” and “Heaven help those who help themselves”. Which ever way you put it, it all boils down to the same thing. You have to work hard to succeed! Success doesn’t fall from heaven. Its just like a student praying to God to pass his exam and he’s not reading or for an unemployed praying for a miraculous job and hes not applying for jobs. My brother/sister you are on a long thing. You would fail woefully and you would remain jobless. Enough Said!
“Hard work does not necessarily guarantee success, but no success is possible without hard work”
